Modern car tires do not use inner tubes because synthetic rubber compounds developed in the 1920s made stronger tires possible. However, inner tubes are still used in some other applications, including:
Classic vehicles
Older cars with their original parts may still need inner tubes to inflate their tires.
Heavy machinery
Inner tubes are commonly used in heavy machinery, tractors, transport trucks, and riding lawnmowers.
Off-road motorcycles
Tubed tires are used on some off-road motorcycles, such as motocross and enduro bikes.
Inner tubes were originally used in car tires to maintain their shape and provide cushioning for a smoother ride. However, they were susceptible to punctures and blowouts, and air would almost immediately escape from punctures. Tubeless tires are safer because they deflate more slowly, giving drivers time to slow down and reach a safe place to repair or replace the tire.
